Santa Cruz Ulta & Climb Ishinca Three Peaks

The Santa Cruz Ulta trek is by far the most popular multi-day hike in the range with pristine meadows, plentiful wild flowers, red quenua trees, turquoise lakes, white glaciers. It is gorgeous.

You get a good long look at Punta Union pass as you ascend the pretty Quebrada Santa Cruz Ulta. The trek will provide you a good acclimatisation and fitness then we will continue with our 7 day climbing trip to the Ishinca Valley.

Ishinca and Urus are good peaks for an extra acclimatisation so that we can tackle the highest peak in our trip Tocllaraju.
Day A: Arrive to Huaraz

Day B & C: Acclimatisation days

Day 1: Huaraz - Cashapampa - Llamacorral
We drive north in a private bus along the Callejón de Huaylas passing through different districts such as: Carhuas (2650m), Yungay (2500m) and to Caraz city (2400m), Then we drive up to Cashapampa where the Donkey Driver will be waiting for us to transport our Camping equipments , from here we will start hiking up to the first camp Llamacorral. Overnight camping at (3760m).

Day 2: Llamacorral - Taullipampa
We will hike along the Santa Cruz Valley. It is a fearly easy walking and we will pass the beautiful turquoise lakes called Ichikcocha and Jatuncocha. There is an optional hike up to the Alpamayo base camp, and then we will return on a short cut path for few hours to the next camp at Taullipampa (4250m).

Day 3: Llamacorral - Punta Union Pass - Cachinapampa
A wonderful day as we will start hiking up for about 3 and half hours to the Punta Union pass (4750m) where we will have lunch enjoying the splendid views of the mountains, landscapes, matching its natural mountain colours in the blue sky, the white mountains. The we will descend for about 3 hours to Cachinapampa camp site at (3750m).

Day 4: Cachinapampa - Molinopampa
We continue walking down to Colcabamba town for about 2 hours approximately, then we walk up for an hour more to get a good place camp to have lunch enjoying the nice views of contrahiervas mountain range, then we will go to the next camp at Molinopampa (3600m)

Day 5: Molinopampa _ Avalanche camp
From our Camp we walk uphill for about 4 hours to our next camp at Avalanche camp 4500m. From our camp we will be rewarded with wonderful avalanche fallings and tremendous mountain views.

Day 6: Avalanche camp _ Ulta Valley _ Huaraz
From the camp we walk for an hour to the Pass Punta yanayacu at 4850m, and then we descend in a nice valley surrounded by big mountains like chopicalqui, Huascaran and ulta. On the route the bus will be waiting for us to take back to our Huaraz Hotel

Day 7: Leaving Huaraz early we drive a short way north, downstream in the Callejon de Huaylas. Then we turn east and climb up to the town of Collón. From here, we load our equipment on burros and begin the easy trek into Base Camp. The trek normally takes only about 4 hours.

Day 8: Rest Day or extra day in case bad weather

Day 9: We attemp the summit of Urus (4450 Slightly steeper climbing and more complicated moraine travel.

Day 10: We climb the summit of Ishinca (5550m). Slightly steeper climbing and more complicated glacier travel will take us to one of the awesome summits in the valley.

Day 11: With the help of porters, we'll move to high camp (4900m.) and afternoon rest and preparation for the summit attempt for the following day.

Day 12: Summit day Tocllaraju (6035m) This is an excellent climb for climbers who want to summit a 6,000 meter peak. This is a relatively easy 6,000 meter peak. In the afternoon we descend to the base camp.

Day 13: Return to Huaraz and celebrate
