Day Hikes

Come and enjoy hikes through the varied landscapes of the Peruvian Andes including forests, prairies and ice-cold glacial lakes surrounded by the snow covered peaks of the Cordillera Blanca soaring into the blue skies of northern Peru.  These tours take you to the highest tropical mountain range on earth, with more than 70 summits above 18,000 feet high with mighty Huascaran being the highest at over at 22,204 feet above sea level!
As well as a walker’s paradise, The Cordillera Blanca is also a climbing playground with several peaks suitable for beginner climbers, through to technically difficult and challenging climbing including the famous Alpamayo, and the highest mountain in Peru - the massive Huascarán.

We will spend a couple days acclimatizing around the mountain town of Huaraz before taking on any of the more strenuous hikes and climbs.

Altitude : 3700 to 4500 m
Grade: Easy to Moderate
Duration : 1 day Start : Cebollapampa- Llanganuco Valley

The path to Laguna 69 starts at Cebollapampa and follows the Yanapaccha valley. The path is fairly obvious and the scenery is very pleasant. The valley ends in open pasture surrounded by five waterfalls. Climbing a little you reach a plateau and from there ascend three more kilometers to the lake.

The lake itself offers great views especially during sunrise or sunset. The lake is at the foot of the Chacraraju mountain and from the lake we have great views of the Huascaran, Chopicalqui and Pisco and Huandoy.

Altitude : 3700 to 4450 m

Churup Lake (4,485m). This short hike gives our bodies a chance to begin the process of adapting to altitude while relishing the landscape of Churup, its azure glacial lake at the foot of the snow-capped mountain by the same name.

The trek to Laguna Churup is a fantastic hike affording excellent views of the valley below. It is located almost directly behind the city of Huaraz. We will go with our private minivan or taxi passing through the villages of Unchus and Llupa on the way.

We will drive all the way up to a national park check-point called Pitec which is about 3 hours walk from the lake. From here a small footpath will take us up to the lake via a steep ascent.

This fortress-temple was constructed between 1200 and 300 BC and is the only large structure remaining from the Chavin culture. It is thought to have been a major ceremonial centre. In 1985 UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Trust Site.

Most visitors come here on a day trip from Huaraz. It is a long 4-hour drive along a largely unpaved twisting road, but things should improve in the future when the road is fully paved cutting the journey time in half. The most convenient way to visit Chavin is by means of an organized tour from Huaraz (Try Chavin or Pablo Tours). Prices cost around...
